Now that’s what I call building anticipation for the series.

Someone wanna tell me where time has gone to?

I remember getting teary eyed when I dropped my son off to his first day of kindergarten. I remember the school fieldtrips in Germany, his moving up exercises in fifth grade, and the fishing and hiking trips we took as a family. This week I felt incredibly thrilled watching him as he got his license. Okay, maybe not while it was happening because I was arguing with DMV. They refused to copy a generic certificate that says my son completed forty hours of driving with an instructor. Then when I asked for it back so I could make a copy, she said no. It was against the law. Against the law? It’s a generic printout for my insurance company. Okay, rant over.

But last night after all the excitement, I was sitting on my bed when it hit me, my son was no longer a boy. And I have to admit I was a little sadder. One more year of high school and he’s off to start his own life. Gawd, I feel old...

The thing about villains

I started seriously thinking about my new project, a slipstream story that’s going to need a good deal of world building. Yes, there’s nothing like becoming godlike and creating a world from scratch.

So there I was sketching out ideas when the villain in story starts chatting in my ear. Or rather whispering. A real creepy sort of person. The type of person that looks all meek and mild but in reality enjoys re-watching Silence of the Lambs just so they can cheer on the murderer. After 30 minutes of free writing a conversation with them, I had over 800 words based on their life. Of how they ended up here. Random bits of information that’ll need fleshing out, but definitely a great beginning. And they clued me in to some things about my world. Don’t you love when a character starts rambling all their baggage?

Oops—before I forget, my buddy Erin has some great news to share. Check it out.

Mia: I need to prep this to send out for critique. Three chapters re-read.

Good start for a Sunday.

One of these days I will catch up on my internet reading

Seriously, I’m so far behind on blog/journals it’s not funny. I swear I’m not ignoring you all. I’ve just been incredibly busy. The Hook, Line and Sinker workshop is now done. It was a great run and I have loads of fantastic feedback for my own first page. Yeah, Val and I learned 5 or 6 weeks would probably be better than trying to fit it all in 4 weeks. Thanks to everyone who participated!

So while I was reading through internet links:

I discovered through a quiz on Erin’s journal I was evil. I blame my muse entirely.

Found a desktop size whiteboard off paperback writer’s blog. (Oh, I soooo need one of them.)

My buddy Erin also sent me a link to a live lioness cam site. There’s just something about watching a lioness and her cubs. Though after this week with my kids, I can understand why some animals eat their young.

Maria Zannini’s e-book is now available for sale.

Paperbackwriter is also preparing for another Virtual workshop and is putting together a world building book.

I’m sure I have more sites to add to this page, but I’ll save the rest for another day. Explore. Enjoy. Shoo...go on.
